| Drifting Sun are a UK-based Progressive Rock studio project. Their music has been described as dramatic, theatrical, and atmospheric, in the true style of Progressive Rock giants such as Dream Theater, Queensryche, Genesis and Jethro Tull, to name but a few of the bands that influenced their sound. Jargon, vocals. Born in Athens in 1981, Jargon took his first piano lessons when he was seven, and started writing songs at age 12. He draws his influences in classical music and progressive rock of the 70s. Some artists who have made an impact on him are Peter Hammill, Genesis, Radiohead, Nevermore, IAMX, Lena Platonos, and Sergei Prokofiev amongst others. When he was 19 years old, he put his first band together, named Afterglow, which was soon to be renamed Verbal Delirium. Armed with a stable line-up they recorded their first demo in 2006, Verbal Delirium have 4 albums under their belt to date, with the new release of their latest offering titled “Conundrum”. In 2020 Jargon released his first solo album entitled “The Fading Thought”. This solo project is Jargon’s brainchild which possesses an “inner otherness” that called for a different musical path. Jargon joined Drifting Sun the following year as lead vocalist on their critically-appraised album “Forsaken Innocence”. Ralph Cardell, guitars. Pat Sanders, keyboards. Pat’s main output has been with Drifting Sun, which he founded in the late 90s. He has 8 albums under his belt with the band so far. Pat started off as a bass player, also doing the occasional keyboards with a multitude of rock bands back in his native France, but gave up the bass to focus solely on the keyboards after a few years. He toured Europe, both as a bassist and a keyboardist, with several rock and progressive acts, and recorded the keyboards for mythical French band Emeraude’s second album ‘Voyageur’ back in the 90s.
Later Pat had a short stint in Canada where he joined a Jethro Tull tribute outfit called The Passion Players and toured with them for nearly a year throughout Quebec and Ontario. During his stay in Canada, he also recorded the keys on Salem’s debut album, another progressive rock band based in Quebec City.
He has contributed to a number of albums by other progressive rock bands, notably recording the keyboards on This Winter Machine’s third album ‘Kites’, guesting on Nine Skies’ second album ‘Sweetheart Grips’, as well as lending his name to other rock projects over the years. John Jowitt, bass. John Jowitt is probably best known for his work with IQ over 19 years, with whom he wrote and recorded five studio albums (Ever, Subterranea, The Seventh House, Dark Matter and Frequency). He also played and recorded with Arena (including The Visitor), Frost*, Ark, Clive Nolan and Jadis, as well as playing bass live with John Wetton, Uriah Heep, Peter Banks (ex-Yes) Tim Bowness, and John Young, amongst others. He’s recorded sessions for Mystery, Martin Orford, Time Collider (with Fudge Smith), Kalle Wallner (RPWL) PBII, Damian Shulman, Mindfeed (with Glynn Morgan, ex-Threshold). He’s a founding member of Rain with Andy Edwards (also ex IQ and Frost*) and also plays in Birmingham band Quill with Andy and Bev Bevan (ex ELO). Fudge Smith, drums. Fudge Smith’s main stay is with Pendragon, playing in the band for 20 years recording and touring over 10 albums including The Masquerade Overture, The Window of Life, The World, Kowtow, 9:15 live, Live at Last, Not of this World, Believe, Fallen Dreams & Angels, The Very Very Bootleg, Utrecht... The Final Frontier, As Good As Gold, Live in Krakow video & album plus charity release After The Storm "A Benefit Album For The Survivors Of Hurricane Katrina". Fudge has played many sessions most notably with Steve Hackett for Central Television and appearing on the Steve Hackett Live album. Recording at Queen’s Mountain Studio with Nick Harper and demos with Clive Nolan. Recent activity includes Time Collider with John Jowitt and Clive Mitten’s The C:Live Collective album. Fudge also features on the self titled Henry Fool album with Tim Bowness and Stephen Bennett along with several albums and videos for Tim Burness. |
