Whimsical is an Indiana band from Dyer Indiana, formed in summer of 1997 by ex members of Mystified Thinking/Emir/Freezerburn/Morthona. A six song promo tape was recorded shortly after the band was formed, but the band was put on hiatus while the main songwriter went away to school. The band was reformed in the summer of 1999 with a new rhythm section consisting of ex members of I’Shark~O and Lickwid. A five song promo CD was recorded in the fall of 1999. Their first full length came out Oct 2000 on Seraph Records. Shortly after the release of the album, they lost our bass player, who was replaced by Mike Bailey. He was actually the original drummer during Whimsical 1997, and the husband of singer Krissy Bailey (later known as Krissy Vanderwoude). The band dissolved a couple of years later with the follow up only 90% finished. The band got back together around 2016 to complete the album, Sleep To Dream. Saint Marie Records released it. Bright Like StarsIn late 2023, Neil Burkdoll (Whimsical) moved to Germany and decided to start a new project while his band Whimsical was on hiatus. Bright Like Stars was formed in November 2023 with vocalist Craig Douglas (Neonach) and within 2 months, the music for 12 songs were written and recorded. Over the next 9 months, vocals, mixing, and mastering were completed, resulting in an album that shows a more early 90's "Alternative Sound" than the "Shoegaze/Dream Pop" sounds Neil is usually known for but with obvious hazy influences. Craig was able to capture a dreamlike quality with his vocals that really tied the songs together perfectly and elevated them to new heights. The title Reflections perfectly captures the feeling we were going for as each song captures the spirit of bands that meant a lot to us as teens growing up in the 1990's. We want the listener to not know what is coming next from song to song but to still see the album as a whole overall.
